MAITLAND-SMITH Statue of a Chimpanzee Looking Into a Mirror
Borrowing its design from German sculptor Hugo Rheinhold’s 1893 bronze masterpiece, Affe mit Schädel or "Ape with skull", this mass-produced statue by Maitland-Smith depicts a quizzical chimpanzee perched upon a mound of books, a small, rounded mirror in his hand. This statue has been heavily patinated throughout to suggest an aged finish with the chimpanzee’s mirror composed of subtle, polished brass that allows for slight reflective effect. Affixed with a maker’s mark on its underside.

Blue and White Floral Cloisonné Lidded Urn
This lidded urn is crafted to showcase a brilliant usage of traditional cloisonné techniques and offers a gorgeous piece of décor to the tabletop or shelved collection. An ancient method used for decorating metal vessels, cloisonné utilizes enamel, glass, and gemstone materials that are first attached to the vessel and held in place with thin strips of metal or wire. The wire is then bent or hammered into a desired pattern, creating unique designs that remain visible within the finished piece. Measuring a modest 9-inches tall, this particular urn is decorated by beautiful floral motifs in blue and white with delicate patterning of gold visible throughout to resolve a fetching addition to the traditional décor arrangement.

Vintage Signed ZINGONE’S Recorded Card Tricks Vol. 1 Set of Phonograph Records
This set of phonograph records by American magician Luis Zingone offers a rare piece of magical history to the collection, with this three record set containing the first volume of Zingone’s Recorded Card Tricks. Dated vintage to the early 1940’s, these records were initially intended to teach magic tricks to burgeoning illusionists and have remained in excellent condition since their pressing over 80 years ago. These records are housed in a hardcover casing and have been signed by Zingone in black pen on the interior cover of the case.

NICODEMUS POTTERY “Ohio” Ashtray
This ashtray by Nicodemus Pottery adds a perfect, homespun piece of décor to the home, depicting a rounded vessel with “Ohio” stamped into its center, written in thin block lettering. This ceramic ashtray is glazed in glossy, translucent tones of rust and white and has been stamped with Nicodemus’ studio insignia on its underside, ensuring its authenticity.
About the Artist:
Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) was a Columbus, Ohio potter, sculptor, and teacher known for his small clay birds, as well as other wildlife, teapots and pitchers. His pieces are recognizable as being produced with variously colored translucent glazes, which enhanced the redness of the high iron content of Ohio clay to create a russet brown undertone. Nicodemus earned a degree from Cleveland Art School and then went on to teach at Dayton Art School and Wittenberg College. In 1932, he became dean at the Columbus College of Art and Design and later taught at The Ohio State University and served as president of the Columbus Art League. All of Nicodemus' molds and glazes were destroyed upon his death at his request.
