Dated vintage circa the 1960s, this figurine from Royal Copenhagen was originally crafted by Danish painter and sculptor Knud Kyhn (1880-1969) and depicts a playful scene of a boy wrestling with a small bear. Vintage JAMES YOKO (1916-2004) “Gypsy Dance” Original Acrylic on Canvas
Dated vintage, this original acrylic on canvas painting by Ohio regionalist artist James Yoko (1916-2004) depicts a fractal, abstract composition, with splintering forms in orange and red dancing through an ethereal landscape of bright green. Yoko, a central figure within the Dayton, Ohio art scene, was a prolific artist throughout his lifetime and gifted over 700 paintings to the Dayton Art Institute upon his death in 2012, making his paintings now highly prized for their rarity. This painting is housed in a simple, painted wood frame and has been signed and dated to 1963 in the lower right hand corner of the canvas by the artist.

Attributed to EMERSON BURKHART (1905-1969) Vintage Original Oil Portrait on Canvas
Dated vintage, this original oil on canvas painting is attributed to Columbus-based artist Emerson Burkhart (1905-1969) and depicts the portrait of an unknown woman dressed in red, rendered in heavy, loose brushstrokes. Described as a “Columbus Institution'' during his life, Burkhart became known for his portraits and street scenes of Columbus, Ohio, painting over 3,000 pieces during a 40-year career. This painting is housed in a rustic, whitewashed wood framing and has been signed and dated to 1965 by the artist in the upper right hand corner of the canvas.

Vintage NICODEMUS POTTERY “Christmas Card” Ornament
This ceramic ornament by Nicodemus Pottery is dated vintage to 1972 and depicts a shapely “Christmas card” complete with a charming holly motif. A lasting figure in the Columbus art scene, Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) imbues a quaint and homespun quality onto this ornament, which has been left unpierced, meaning it was likely given away by the artist himself as a gift. This ceramic ornament is glazed in a glossy, translucent green and has been stamped and affixed with Nicodemus’ studio insignia en verso, ensuring its authenticity.
About the Artist:
Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) was a Columbus, Ohio potter, sculptor, and teacher known for his small clay birds, as well as other wildlife, teapots and pitchers. His pieces are recognizable as being produced with variously colored translucent glazes, which enhanced the redness of the high iron content of Ohio clay to create a russet brown undertone. Nicodemus earned a degree from Cleveland Art School and then went on to teach at Dayton Art School and Wittenberg College. In 1932, he became dean at the Columbus College of Art and Design and later taught at The Ohio State University and served as president of the Columbus Art League. All of Nicodemus' molds and glazes were destroyed upon his death at his request.

Vintage CURTIS JERÉ Abstract Floral Wall Sculpture
Fabricated from brass, this early sculpture by Curtis Jeré depicts a cacophony of abstracted floral designs that resemble waving cattails or perhaps some foreign marsh plant. About the Artist:
C. Jeré is a compound nom de plume of Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler, two brother-in-laws. They were metalworking artists who focused on home accessories and wall sculptures. The works of C. Jeré were produced and marketed by Artisan House, an art production for the average consumer that was founded by the duo in 1963. Freiler was the chief of production and Fels was the chief of design. They employed a great number of minorities and handicapped people and at one point employed 300 people. They sold the company in 1972. Early C. Jeré works were produced in California, but continue to be made overseas since the company’s outsourcing in 2003. Freiler passed away in 2008, Fels in 2013 at 103 years old.

EDWARD NICHOLSON (1901-1966) “Desert Sunset, Palm Springs” Original Silkscreen
Original print by American artist Edward Nicholson (1901-1966) depicts a desert sunset overlooking Palm Springs, California; playful pastel tones providing a light and airy quality to the majestic landscape. A dual portrait and landscape artist, Nicholson split his time between Illinois and California, and was regarded as a prominent Californian artist, being listed in Edan Hughes' 1989 publication, Artists in California, 1786-1940. Housed in a distressed white frame, this original silkscreen is signed and titled by the artist along the bottom of the print.

Original watercolor on paper by American artist Ralph Fanning (1889-1971) depicts a charming European bath scene with a heavy focus on the architectural elements that surround the figures. A distinguished art and architecture historian at The Ohio State University, Fanning’s work drew on influences from the Post-Impressionist movement, and particularly on the work of Alice Schille. Specifically designed front and back cover by Picasso for this edition of Verve Magazine, this issue is completely dedicated to the oeuvre of the artist. Made in Vallauris, Paris, each page was produced through a lithograph, heliogravure and quadrichromia printing process by Draeger Frerés to create vivid documentation of Picasso's work. Due to the nature of the publication, many were discarded through the years, leaving this highly sought after and desirable. Because of the age of the magazine, this copy contains damage and tears throughout.

ANDRÉ MASSON (1896-1987) Signed and Numbered Lithograph
An original signed and numbered lithograph by famed French artist André Masson (1896-1987) reminiscent of Masson’s works in automatic drawing. Featuring graphic marks on a vivid ground of red, blue, yellow, and green, Masson’s surrealistic mark-making invites viewers to investigate the image and form their own meaning within the piece. Framed in silver and signed and numbered at the bottom.
About the Artist: André Masson(1896-1987) was born in Balagny-sur-Thérain, Oise and began to study art at the age of 11 at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, later moving his studies to Paris. Masson’s early work displayed an interest in Cubism, but he later became more closely associated with Surrealism, becoming more of the more enthusiastic advocates of automatic drawing; a practice in which the hand is allowed to move randomly across the paper or canvas. Under the German occupation of France, Masson was labeled a degenerate artist by the Nazi regime and he later moved away from Surrealism, adopting a more structured style with themes of eroticism and violence. After escaping France to America, Masson’s work became an important influence on burgeoning Abstract Expressionists, such as Jackson Pollock, as he worked in Connecticut. Following the war, he returned to France and continued to paint until his death in 1987 at the age of 91.
