NICODEMUS POTTERY 3 Piece “Nativity” Set of Ceramic Figures

$495.00
This set of ceramic sculptures by Nicodemus Pottery consists of figures of Mary and Jesus, Joseph, and a lamb to tenderly depict a scene from the classic nativity story. A lasting figure in the Columbus art scene, Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) imbues gentle reverence onto the figures in this set, with each character bowing their heads in reverence or silently praying towards the newborn Christ child held in the Virgin Mary’s arms. Glazed in a glossy, translucent white, each figure in this set of ceramic sculptures is stamped with Nicodemus’ studio insignia along their underside, ensuring authenticity. About the Artist: Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) was a Columbus, Ohio potter, sculptor, and teacher known for his small clay birds, as well as other wildlife, teapots and pitchers. His pieces are recognizable as being produced with variously colored translucent glazes, which enhanced the redness of the high iron content of Ohio clay to create a russet brown undertone. Nicodemus earned a degree from Cleveland Art School and then went on to teach at Dayton Art School and Wittenberg College. In 1932, he became dean at the Columbus College of Art and Design and later taught at Ohio State University and served as president of the Columbus Art League. All of Nicodemus' molds and glazes were destroyed upon his death at his request. This set of ceramics figures is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! Vintage CURTIS JERÉ Abstract Floral Wall Sculpture

$495.00
Fabricated from brass, this early sculpture by Curtis Jeré depicts a cacophony of abstracted floral designs that resemble waving cattails or perhaps some foreign marsh plant. Wall mounted, this sculpture’s patinated brass construction provides a beautifully industrial contrast to the stylized organic subject matter this piece of art presents. Perfect for the beginning or seasoned art collector, this sizable sculpture is signed and dated to 1968 by the artists. About the Artist: C. Jeré is a compound nom de plume of Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler, two brother-in-laws. They were metalworking artists who focused on home accessories and wall sculptures. The works of C. Jeré were produced and marketed by Artisan House, an art production for the average consumer that was founded by the duo in 1963. Freiler was the chief of production and Fels was the chief of design. They employed a great number of minorities and handicapped people and at one point employed 300 people. They sold the company in 1972. Early C. Jeré works were produced in California, but continue to be made overseas since the company’s outsourcing in 2003. Freiler passed away in 2008, Fels in 2013 at 103 years old. This wall sculpture is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.
