Landscape painting by Robert Bandegee uses muted tones to depict a rolling mountain scene with a green field studded with rocks. Typed inscription on reverse reads:
“Oil painting in colours on academy board. Robert B. Brandegee (1848-1922) American. “At Twin Lakes.” Impressionist landscape composition, with some impasto, showing a rocky hilltop bordered by a grove of trees, with blue-toned hills in the background. A red-streaked gray sky is overhead. Signed and titled on verso. In good condition. 12 ½ x 19 in. Framed. Reference: Listed in Fielding, page 39.”
About the Artist:
Robert Brandegee (1848-1922) was born in Connecticut. He studied in New York and spent 8 years in Paris studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was influenced by John Ruskin, Frank Duveneck, and the Munich School. He is remembered as an American Pre-Raphaelite.
