Double Faced Paintings in the Manner of Chaim Soutine

Unique framed artwork features two paintings back to back in the manner of early 20th century Belarusian painter Chaim Soutine. Soutine’s work and popularity exploded after World War II and was subject to frequent forgeries and copies, this double faced painting being an example as indicated by the misspelled “Souitine” signature. On one side of the framed canvas, this forger has depicted a watchtower utilizing technique reminiscent of Soutine’s lively brushstrokes. The opposite piece on the back depicts a Fauvist landscape of a pathway leading through a clearing of trees. These pieces are reversible and framed in a distressed gold.

Original oil on canvas painting by renowned Ohio artist Jeanne Isenhart (1920-2005) depicts a farmland scene on the day of a local auction. Bidders can be seen in the lower foreground while a sprawling countryside fills the background of the piece. About the Artist:
Jeanne Isenhart (1920-2005) was born in Gloversville, New York and studied at the Rhode Island School of Art and Design before serving in the Navy during World War II. Isenhart spent a large portion of her adult career as an interior designer before turning to painting at the age of 60. Described as creating “refined primitive” oil paintings, she created over 600 works of art. Collections of her work include that of the Ohio State House and the Ohio Governor’s Mansion. Isenhart exhibited her work largely in the Midwest and in New York City. She died at 85 in 2005 at the age of 85 in Newark, Ohio.

About the Artist:
Taken from the insurance appraisal (on file): William Williams was an English subject, landscape, and portrait artist who practiced in London and Norwich in the latter half of the 18th Century. The Society of Arts awarded him a premium in 1758 and he exhibited occasionally at the Royal Academy between 1770 and 1792. His “Marriage” and “Gallantry” were engraved by Jukes, and several of his Shakespearian subjects by Valentine Green.

Christie derives inspiration from his upbringing on a West Virginia farm, his connection to animals, and his time in Europe. He is now based in Lewisburg, West Virginia.
