This hand colored engraving depicts a portrait of General Henry Ireton of the English Parliamentarian army. Born in 1611, Ireton joined the parliamentary army at the outbreak of the first English Civil War, serving as a close confidant of Oliver Cromwell, who would later become his father-in-law after Ireton married Bridget Cromwell. The Parliamentarian army would emerge as victors of the first civil war, leading Ireton to join Cromwell in an attempt to reform Ireland under English law afterwards. Hand colored, this engraving of Ireton serves as a faithful historical depiction to the famed general. Housed in a stylish gold frame.
