Circa the early to mid 1900s, this large sign was handcrafted with gold leaf lettering on glass for Montague Burton: The Tailor of Taste. Montague Burton was a tailor shop that grew in number in popularity, having around 300 shops at its height from 1900-1939. Suits were custom made to order per the customers specifications, requiring a deposit with the order and payment upon completion. This sign advertises that fact with classic style, using gold leaf lettering with a black border surrounded by opaque glass.

Original poster dated to 1899 by Jules Chéret was created for the Spanish pavilion at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris as part of an exhibit of Andalusian art from the time of the Moorish occupation of the Iberian peninsula.
