Original etching with aquatint by Czech painter and printmaker Tavík František Šimon (1877-1942) depicts a wintery scene of a treeline, with a quaint stream leading towards a snow-covered pavilion. Influenced by the impressionist movement, this etching by Šimon displays slight yellowing from the age of this print, permitting a nostalgic feel to the image and making the cool landscape glow with a bygone warmth. Housed in a gold frame, this original etching is signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner of the paper.

Unique framed artwork features two paintings back to back in the manner of early 20th century Belarusian painter Chaim Soutine. Soutine’s work and popularity exploded after World War II and was subject to frequent forgeries and copies, this double faced painting being an example as indicated by the misspelled “Souitine” signature. On one side of the framed canvas, this forger has depicted a watchtower utilizing technique reminiscent of Soutine’s lively brushstrokes. The opposite piece on the back depicts a Fauvist landscape of a pathway leading through a clearing of trees. These pieces are reversible and framed in a distressed gold.
