ELMER BOYD SMITH (1860-1943) “Couple in the Rain” Original Gouache

This original gouache on paper by American writer, painter, and illustrator Elmer Boyd Smith (1860-1943) depicts a man and woman out and about during a rainstorm. Renowned as a multi-faceted artist, Smith illustrated more than seventy books for adults and children, beginning with My Village, written in 1896 while Smith was living in France. This original gouache is presented in a brilliant gold framing and has been signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner of the paper.
