Antique JULES CHERET(1836-1932) Theatre de l’Opera Poster Circa 1897
Excellent original advertising poster from the French Belle Epoque period circa 1897 was made by celebrated artist Jules Cheret (1836-1932). In this era, artists would create the image for a theater season, with lettering applied later to suit specific events. This image was created for the 1897-1898 opera season, with the lettering advertising the first masked gala of the season. Dynamic, whimsical lines with vivacious color are indicative of both the artist’s style and cultural period.
