Impressionist oil on canvas painting by Randall Vernon Davey has an icy blue hue over the cityscape scene. Quick impasto strokes abstracts the details of figures standing in the foreground around towering trees, with buildings in the distance. Framed in a complementary blue, signed in corner.
About the Artist:
Randall Vernon Davey (1887-1964) was a multi-faceted artist proficient in murals, painting, printmaking, and sculpting. He wanted to pursue art as a career but to appease his family, he attended Cornell University before leaving in 1908 without his degree. He then began studying at New York School of Art, touring with one of his mentors Robert Henri in 1910. Under his mentorship, he was able to explore, teach, and participate in the global art community. In 1919, after avoiding the draft in Cuba during WWI, Davey visited Sante Fe, New Mexico where he would then live for over 40 years. Davey taught at many institutions and received numerous prizes over his lengthy career .
