About the Artist:

Clara Deike (1881-1964) was an Ohio-based painter and educator, originally born in Detroit.  Deike’s artistic training began at the Cleveland School of Art, studying under leading Cleveland Impressionist painter, Frederick C. Gottwald.  She sought out many teachers, traveling from Ohio all the way to Mexico City. After finishing her studies, she moved back to Ohio to become a secondary school art teacher, while she regularly exhibited art at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Deike’s earliest works were impressionistic, under the influence of Gottwald. Then around 1911, she may have met William Sommer who offered a more Post-Impressionist direction for Cleveland artists.

This painting is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Columbus, Ohio! Come in today and see the full collection.
