W & J SLOANE Mahogany Inlaid Server

Excellent server by the illustrious W&J Sloane is crafted from mahogany with decadent inlaid details with flamed veneers. Borders, swag, and flourishes can be found throughout this layered piece. A shield-framed mirror sits at the center, top with a crest and flanked by galleries with finials at the top of a cabinet on each side. The cabinet doors have inlaid cameos of putti. Each cabinet contains two adjustable shelves. Three drawers trim the bottom of the setback upper. The lower segment also has three drawers with matching brass ring pulls with floral escutcheons. Stylized stretchers connect the four carved legs with a central platform for additional display.  About the Manufacturer: W&J Sloane was a New York luxury furniture company whose prominent and wealthy clientele included Rockefeller, Whitney, and Vanderbilt. In the late 19th century, they became the first home furnishings store with rugs, antiques, and production furniture. This status made them tastemakers throughout the country for the next 60 years.
