About the Artist:
Kathy Bates is an Ohio-based practicing veterinarian who took up painting as a passion project at 42 years old. Her masterful usage of bold color and soft textures allude to a contemporary and impressionistic styling, one that remains collected by both seasoned artists and amateur gallerists alike.

Borrowing its design from German sculptor Hugo Rheinhold’s 1893 bronze masterpiece, Affe mit Schädel or "Ape with skull", this mass-produced statue by Maitland-Smith depicts a quizzical chimpanzee perched upon a mound of books, a small, rounded mirror in his hand.
