After FREDERIC REMINGTON “The Cheyenne” Bronze Sculpture

Cast by the Henry Bonnard Bronze Company from original molds by American artist Frederic Remington (1861-1909), this bronze sculpture depicts a Native American figure racing on horseback. Titled “The Cheyenne”, the original bronze version of this sculpture was cast in 1907 and now resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Resting on a green marble platform and exhibiting a gorgeous patina, this fine piece of art is signed in the casting by Remington along the base of the sculpture. About the Artist: Born in Canton, New York in 1861, Frederic Remington became an American sculptor and illustrator that specialized in depictions of Native Americans and the culture surrounding the old west. He attended school at Yale University for art, the only male student of his freshmen class. He traveled to Montana to purchase a cattle farm and then a mine operation, and after realizing that he couldn’t afford either, fell in love with the authentic west, drawing the people he would see on his travels. This sculpture’s larger silhouette and polished brass provides a beautifully industrial contrast to the stylized form of this sculpture’s organic subject matter. Sure to delight in any home, this sculpture is signed and dated “C. Jeré 1998” on the rounded base of the sculpture by the artists. About the Artist: C. Jeré is a compound nom de plume of Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler, two brother-in-laws. They were metalworking artists who focused on home accessories and wall sculptures. The works of C. Jeré were produced and marketed by Artisan House, an art production for the average consumer that was founded by the duo in 1963. Freiler was the chief of production and Fels was the chief of design. They employed a great number of minorities and handicapped people and at one point employed 300 people. They sold the company in 1972. Early C. Jeré works were produced in California, but continue to be made overseas since the company’s outsourcing in 2003. Freiler passed away in 2008, Fels in 2013 at 103 years old.
