MAITLAND-SMITH Statue of a Chimpanzee Looking Into a Mirror
Borrowing its design from German sculptor Hugo Rheinhold’s 1893 bronze masterpiece, Affe mit Schädel or "Ape with skull", this mass-produced statue by Maitland-Smith depicts a quizzical chimpanzee perched upon a mound of books, a small, rounded mirror in his hand. This statue has been heavily patinated throughout to suggest an aged finish with the chimpanzee’s mirror composed of subtle, polished brass that allows for slight reflective effect. Affixed with a maker’s mark on its underside.

ROMERO BRITTO (1963-) “Football” Resin Sculpture
This resin sculpture by Brazilian-born artist Romero Britto (1963-) depicts a stylized American football rendered in Britto’s famed patchwork tones of bright colors and patterning. One of the most collected and licensed artists in modern times, Britto has been a unique, artistic voice since the late 1980s, with commissions by brands such as Disney, Pepsi, Absolut Vodka, and Apple furthering his saturated expressions of Cubism and Pop art. Mounted on a squared black base, this serialized sculpture is affixed with a small plaque that prominently displays the artist’s signature and insignia.

CURTIS JERÉ “Boathouse with Bridge” Metal Sculpture
This metal sculpture by Curtis Jeré depicts a charming scene of a bridge leading to a covered boat house, a small rowing vessel docked against thin, wispy reeds that sprout along the bottom of the artwork. A patinated and polished brass construction provides this sculpture with a beautiful, industrial aesthetic and offers a perfect find for both fledgling and seasoned art collectors. Wall mounted, this sculpture is sold as-is and is signed en verso by the artists, uniquely including original tag.
About the Artist:
C. Jeré is a compound nom de plume of Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler, two brother-in-laws. They were metalworking artists who focused on home accessories and wall sculptures. The works of C. Jeré were produced and marketed by Artisan House, an art production for the average consumer that was founded by the duo in 1963. Freiler was the chief of production and Fels was the chief of design. They employed a great number of minorities and handicapped people and at one point employed 300 people. They sold the company in 1972. Early C. Jeré works were produced in California, but continue to be made overseas since the company’s outsourcing in 2003. Freiler passed away in 2008, Fels in 2013 at 103 years old.
