Antique THOMAS EDISON Phonograph with Horn and Cylinders

Wonderful antique Thomas Edison phonograph has a wooden case with locking lid, featuring a light finish and excellent woodworking details. A black metal pole slides into the mount to suspend the phonograph horn, attaching to the needle that latches down around the musical cylinders. The side crank winds the mechanism that is activated with the flick of a side switch. The cylinder turns against the needle, funneling the sound through the angled horn. Vintage CURTIS JERE Brooklyn Bridge Sculpture

Crafted from brass, a sculpture by famed metalworks company Curtis Jere. This sculpture, circa 1975, is an intricate reimagining of the Brooklyn Bridge, with additional detail of the pier. For the collectors, a beautiful vintage wall sculpture of splendid vision and detail. About the Artist: C. Jeré is a compound nom de plume of Jerry Fels and Curtis Freiler, two brother-in-laws. They were metalworking artists who focused on home accessories and wall sculptures. The works of C. Jeré were produced and marketed by Artisan House, an art production for the average consumers that was founded by the duo in 1963. Freiler was the chief of production and Fels was the chief of design. They employed a great number of minorities and handicapped people and at one point employed 300 people. They sold the company in 1972. Early C. Jeré works were produced in California, but continue to be made overseas since the company’s outsourcing in 2003. Freiler passed away in 2008, Fels in 2013 at 103 years old. This sculpture is amongst hundreds of pieces of artwork that are available at our showroom in Grandview! JESSIE PRESTON “#7” Chamberstick in Bronze Circa 1905

#7 Chamberstick circa 1905 was crafted from bronze by metalworker Jessie Preston.  Jessie Preston was a woman metalsmith and designer in Chicago 1900-1918. Rare find as she had a limited production.  Jessie Preston was one of the first female graduates of the School of the Art Institute’s decorative design focus, quickly gaining recognition for her jewelry and metalsmithing. Signed with Anderson Foundry mark, Chicago 1905.

NICODEMUS POTTERY Bull Circa 1970

Circa 1970, this bull sculpture by Nicodemus Pottery has a rusty brown glaze with a high gloss finish. The thick bull bears his short horns with head down, with his tail whimsically twisted. About the Artist: Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) was a Columbus, Ohio potter, sculptor, and teacher known for his small clay birds, as well as other wildlife, teapots and pitchers. His pieces are recognizable as being produced with variously colored translucent glazes, which enhanced the redness of the high iron content of Ohio clay to create a russet brown undertone. Nicodemus earned a degree from Cleveland Art School and then went on to teach at Dayton Art School and Wittenberg college. In 1932, he became dean  at the Columbus College of Art and Design and later taught at Ohio State University and served as president of the Columbus Art League. All of Nicodemus' molds and glazes were destroyed upon his death at his request. This sculpture is one of hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview!
