By Old Master painter Pietro Mera (1571-1611), this original oil and tempera painting on copper Diana and her nymphs, with unusual yet captivating luster. The dynamic scene is overflowing with minute detail and soft, masterful texture. The gilt gold frame has an unusual back with a grid made from wood holding the copper plate in place. A former sale label remains above the hanging wire. Pietro Mera was Flemish, but spent most of his life painting in Italy. Both influences are evident in this masterful example.
