Dated vintage, this original oil on canvas painting is attributed to Columbus-based artist Emerson Burkhart (1905-1969) and depicts the portrait of an unknown woman dressed in red, rendered in heavy, loose brushstrokes. Described as a “Columbus Institution'' during his life, Burkhart became known for his portraits and street scenes of Columbus, Ohio, painting over 3,000 pieces during a 40-year career. This painting is housed in a rustic, whitewashed wood framing and has been signed and dated to 1965 by the artist in the upper right hand corner of the canvas.
