This original oil on canvas by Italian painter Antonio DeVity (1901-1993) depicts an impressionistic French street scene placed after an early spring rain, pedestrians punctuating the sidewalks of an old city. Born Umberto Marone, DeVity became one of the most important Neopolitan artists of the 1950s and 1960s, with his light impasto techniques adding beauty, depth, and dimension to his compositions. This painting is housed in a distressed gold frame and is signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner of the canvas with DeVity’s studio insignia stamped en verso.
