About the Artist: Wilmer Siegfried Richter (1891-1993) was a Philadelphia born artist and illustrator. He found a new job through a classmate and began his career in commercial art. He spent his career attending classes when he felt compelled to learn a new medium, and traveling frequently. He was drafted into World War I at 27, was deployed without any training, and was almost immediately gassed and wounded in combat. He kept himself occupied with art until he was able to return to the states. The famed Saturday Evening Post took interest in some of his wartime illustrations, and he continued to improve them as they accepted them.
