Authentic 1996 Olympic Torch from Atlanta Games with Etched Display Mirror

SOLD

Own a piece of history with this authentic Olympic torch from the 1996 Atlanta games, handsomely displayed on an etched mirror mount. The Summer Olympics relay that year spanned an impressive 16,699 miles, starting in Olympia and traveling across Greece before flying to Los Angeles International Airport. The tour went on to visit 42 states, carried by 12,467 bearers. The bearers included 2,000 former Olympians, 5,500 nominated local heroes, and 2,500 selected by random drawing. The route hit as many culturally and historically significant locations as it could on its way to Atlanta, ending in a touching final lighting by Muhammad Ali. The torch itself was designed by Malcom Grear, and features 22 aluminum reeds representing the number of Games held. A gold plated band is inscribed with the 20 historical host cities, with the Atlanta logo on the upper gold band. The wood in the handle is Georgia hardwood produced by Hillerich & Bradsby Co., who makes Louisville Slugger bats. The torch is cradled on an etched mirror display beneath the iconic Olympic rings and above the large inscription “100 Atlanta 1996”. A birdseye maple frame surrounds the piece.

This torch is amongst hundreds of pieces of decor that are available at our showroom in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.
