This Polynesian, or tapa, bark cloth is Samoan in origin and has been framed in wood for an intriguing piece of cultural décor to add to the home. Predominantly crafted from the inner bark of the paper mulberry tree, this textile was manufactured by pounding and gluing strips of bark together to produce large sheets and was, historically, the only form of cloth found in Polynesia prior to Western contact. Employed in nearly every aspect of daily life, this textile continues to play a vital role in Samoan culture and should be regarded as a ceremonial item worthy of respect for the reverent home.
This framed cloth is amongst hundreds of pieces of décor that are available at our location in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection
