The upper right hand corner of the print reads in French, “Elle vit apparaître le matin. Elle se tut discrètement.” translated to, “She saw the morning light begin to pierce the night. She discreetly grew silent.” Known for his immaculate use of color, this intriguing design by Matisse showcases the style and informed decision making that brought him notoriety as the pioneer of Fauvist art. This print is framed in black and plate signed in the right hand corner of the print.
