Jacques Villon (1875-1963), born Emile Méry Frédéric Gaston Duchamp, was a French Cubist artist who also was a printmaker and abstract painter. He was born to a wealthy and artistic family, and was the eldest of three successful artist siblings including Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968). He moved to Montmartre in Paris with his brother Raymond Duchamp in 1894. He focused heavily on his printmaking starting in 1906, primarily in drypoint method. He remained fairly isolated despite the fact that he was a part of a bustling art scene, making him obscure for many years.
