WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866-1944) “Circuit” Original Lithograph on Handmade Paper

SOLD
Original lithograph on handmade paper by renowned Russian artist Wassily Kandinksy (1866-1944) depicts an abstracted composition of split planes and geometric forms. Generally regarded as the pioneer for abstraction in western art, Kandinsky’s work continues to be viewed favorably by museum curators and art historians for its expressive quality and masterful color treatments. Matted and housed in a handsome wooden frame, this original lithograph is sourced from an edition of 150, and is plate signed in the lower left hand corner of the print by the artist. About the Artist: Wassily Kandinsky was born in Moscow on December 16, 1866 to musical parents Lidia Ticheeva and Vasily Silvestrovich Kandinsky, a tea merchant. When Kandinsky was 5 years old, his parents divorced, and he moved to Odessa, where he learned to play the piano and cello in grammar school, studying drawing with a coach at this time as well. Although originally following his family’s wishes to study law, Kandinsky abandoned this career path after viewing an exhibition of French Impressionist paintings in Moscow, moving to Munich to pursue art full-time. Accepted into the prestigious Munich Academy of Art, Kandinsky’s studies were largely self-directed and after mastering traditional techniques of color and form, he set off on creating the more expressive, emotive works that would cement his legacy. Both world wars interfered with Kandinsky’s later career, and although he had achieved German citizenship, the Nazi regime labeled his work among the “degenerative arts”, with 57 of his works being confiscated. Fleeing to Neuilly-sur-Seine after Germany invaded France, Kandinsky lived a secluded life before dying in 1944 at the age of 77. Considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in the western art circles, Kandinsky continues to be a controversial and highly sought-out artist into the 21st century.   This lithograph is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! PETER MAX (1937-) “Better World Collage” Acrylic on Lithograph

$4,000.00
Original mixed media collage by renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (1937-) depicts a colorful rendering of a sunset bordered by abstract forms and gestural brushstrokes. Max’s signature psychedelic style has remained popular with collectors since he first began exhibiting in the early 1960’s. Crafted from painted acrylic on lithograph and framed in gold, this piece of fine art is signed by Max on the lower right hand side of the print. About the Artist: Peter Max Finkelstein was born on October 19, 1937 in Berlin, Germany. The son of German Jews, Max’s family fled Berlin a year after his birth and settled in Shanghai, China, where they lived for the next ten years. From there, his family moved to Israel and eventually westward, stopping in Paris for several months: an experience that Max would later credit to fostering his appreciation for art. Finally settling in Brooklyn, New York, Max began formal art training at the Art Students League of New York, eventually setting up a studio with his friend Tom Daly in 1962. Beginning work in advertising, Max’s usage in counter culture and psychedelic imagery quickly gained popularity, leading him to an appearance on The Tonight Show and designing cover art for Life Magazine. Along with many other pop culture projects and commissions, Max operated galleries throughout the world that sold his work and commercialized products. LEROY NEIMAN (1921-2012) “Brooklyn Bridge” Signed Offset Lithograph

SOLD
Original offset lithograph by famed American artist LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) depicts the Brooklyn Bridge with vivid and electric shades of blue that transmute to warm hues of yellow, orange, and red. This piece is based off of a painting that has been originally created through thick palette knife work and departs from Neiman’s typical subject matter of sporting related imagery. A rare find, this lithograph has been hand signed by Neiman and framed in a sleek sable. About the Artist: LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) was an American artist who used bright colors with expressionist style to create iconic images, primarily of musicians, athletes, and sporting events. While working as a freelance fashion illustrator, he met Hugh Hefner and became a frequent contributor to Playboy Magazine. RENÈ GRUAU (1909-2004) “Les Girls Suite” Limited Edition Signed Lithograph

$4,500.00
This large, limited edition lithograph by visionary fashion illustrator René Gruau (1909-2004) comes from the “Les Girls Suite” collection, in which Gruau depicts female figures cloaking themselves against the printed background of the lithographic paper. Rendered in cyan, Gruau depicts this figure with a large hat, sensually looking over her shoulder at the viewer. Framed in a tall, fabric-wrapped frame with black trim, this lithograph is signed by Gruau in the lower right corner of the print. Two other lithographs from this series are available, each sold separately. About the Artist: Born Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate in Rimini, Italy, in 1909, Gruau was the son of an Italian count and French aristocrat. Instead of following in his father's footsteps and accepting the job of a royal military commander, Gruau’s passion and inclination led him to a love and pursuit of fine arts, and he began supporting his mother by selling illustrations to fashion magazines at the age of fourteen. Gruau moved to the United States in 1948 to work for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. He remained with the magazine for two years, before working as the sole illustrator for Flair. Influenced by Japanese woodblock prints and the simplified designs of Toulouse-Lautrec, Gruau created a style of elegance that has had a lasting effect on how fashion is illustrated today. Gruau's artwork is recognized and commended internationally in some of the world’s most prestigious art museums including the Louvre in Paris and the Blank in Italy. He passed away in 2004 in Rome, Italy at the age of 95. This lithograph is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview!
