Late 19th Century Oil on Canvas of Doctor with Child

From a Southern Ohio estate, this antique oil on canvas painting circa the late 18th century shows an interior scene with a doctor counseling a concerned mother while examining the small child on her lap. The innocent white gown of the child and sunny yellow dress of the woman create a beacon of light in an otherwise dark composition. A schnauzer dog stands faithfully behind the doctor’s heels. Framed in a black-brushed gold.
