PETER MAX (1937-) “Better World Collage” Acrylic on Lithograph $4,000.00

LEROY NEIMAN (1921-2012) “Brooklyn Bridge” Signed Offset Lithograph

SOLD

Original offset lithograph by famed American artist Leroy Neiman (1921-2012) depicts the Brooklyn Bridge with vivid and electric shades of blue that transmute to warm hues of yellow, orange, and red. This piece is based off of a painting that has been originally created through thick palette knife work and departs from Neiman’s typical subject matter of sporting related imagery. A rare find, this lithograph has been hand signed by hand signed by Neiman and framed in a sleek sable.

About the Artist:
LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) was an American artist who used bright colors with expressionist style to create iconic images, primarily of musicians, athletes, and sporting events. Neiman studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago after serving in World War II. He then worked as a part of the Art Institute staff for ten years. While working as a freelance fashion illustrator, he met Hugh Hefner and became a frequent contributor to Playboy Magazine. He traveled the world and cataloged his journeys with paintings of leisurely life, athletic competitions, and social activities. Jazz, casinos, and nightlife along with historical athletic happenings such as the Olympics, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Kentucky Derby were all at Neiman’s fingertips. He was very commercially successful, and became an exceedingly generous philanthropist, giving back to communities and interests that he participated in himself.

WASSILY KANDINSKY (1866-1944) “Composition X” Original Lithograph on Handmade Paper

$1,295.00
Original lithograph on handmade paper by renowned Russian artist Wassily Kandinksy (1866-1944) depicts an abstracted composition of split planes and geometric forms. Generally regarded as the pioneer for abstraction in western art, Kandinsky’s work continues to be viewed favorably by museum curators and art historians for its expressive quality and masterful color treatments. Matted and housed in a handsome wooden frame, this original lithograph is dated to 1939 and sourced from an edition of 150. Unsigned by Kandinsky, this print still displays his unmistakable touch. About the Artist: Wassily Kandinsky was born in Moscow on December 16, 1866 to musical parents Lidia Ticheeva and Vasily Silvestrovich Kandinsky, a tea merchant. When Kandinsky was 5 years old, his parents divorced, and he moved to Odessa, where he learned to play the piano and cello in grammar school, studying drawing with a coach at this time as well. Although originally following his family’s wishes to study law, Kandinsky abandoned this career path after viewing an exhibition of French Impressionist paintings in Moscow, moving to Munich to pursue art full-time. Accepted into the prestigious Munich Academy of Art, Kandinsky’s studies were largely self-directed and after mastering traditional techniques of color and form, he set off on creating the more expressive, emotive works that would cement his legacy. Both world wars interfered with Kandinsky’s later career, and although he had achieved German citizenship, the Nazi regime labeled his work among the “degenerative arts”, with 57 of his works being confiscated. Fleeing to Neuilly-sur-Seine after Germany invaded France, Kandinsky lived a secluded life before dying in 1944 at the age of 77. Considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in the western art circles, Kandinsky continues to be a controversial and highly sought-out artist into the 21st century.   This lithograph is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! RENÈ GRUAU (1909-2004) “Les Girls Suite” Limited Edition Signed Lithograph

$4,500.00
This large, limited edition lithograph by visionary fashion illustrator René Gruau (1909-2004) comes from the “Les Girls Suite” collection, in which Gruau depicts female figures cloaking themselves against the printed background of the lithographic paper. Rendered in cyan, Gruau depicts this figure with a large hat, sensually looking over her shoulder at the viewer. Framed in a tall, fabric-wrapped frame with black trim, this lithograph is signed by Gruau in the lower right corner of the print. Two other lithographs from this series are available, each sold separately. About the Artist: Born Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli delle Caminate in Rimini, Italy, in 1909, Gruau was the son of an Italian count and French aristocrat. Instead of following in his father's footsteps and accepting the job of a royal military commander, Gruau’s passion and inclination led him to a love and pursuit of fine arts, and he began supporting his mother by selling illustrations to fashion magazines at the age of fourteen. Gruau moved to the United States in 1948 to work for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. He remained with the magazine for two years, before working as the sole illustrator for Flair. Influenced by Japanese woodblock prints and the simplified designs of Toulouse-Lautrec, Gruau created a style of elegance that has had a lasting effect on how fashion is illustrated today. Gruau's artwork is recognized and commended internationally in some of the world’s most prestigious art museums including the Louvre in Paris and the Blank in Italy. He passed away in 2004 in Rome, Italy at the age of 95. This lithograph is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! DENNIS OPPENHEIM (1938-2011) “Tree House Structure on Poisoned Soil #3” Lithograph

$695.00 $625.50
This original lithograph by American conceptual artist Dennis Oppenheim (1938-2011) depicts the layout for Oppenheim’s “Tree House Structure on Poisoned Soil” project, in which small houses were built into sculptural trees. A pioneer of earthwork and conceptual art, Oppenheim’s versatile and prolific output often exasperated his critics, with works such as this lithograph providing an artwork that primarily exists in the mind of the viewer. Housed in a contemporary black frame, this original lithograph is signed, numbered 144/150, and dated to 1979 by Oppenheim in pencil.   About the Artist: Dennis Oppenheim (1938-2011) was born in Electric City, Washington to native Californian mother and a Russian immigrant father who worked as an engineer on the Grand Coulee Dam. Oppenheim’s family moved to the San Francisco Bay area and shortly thereafter, he attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, followed by an MFA from Stanford University in 1965. Oppenheim moved to New York City in 1966, working as a nursery and junior high art teacher while preparing to have his first solo show in 1968. A pioneer of earthwork and conceptualist art, Oppenheim’s versatility and stylistic shifts often caused exasperation amongst critics, who struggled to keep up with Oppenheim’s questioning of the nature of art and the definition of art. The subject of numerous texts and exhibitions, Oppenheim died in 2011 at the age of 72, working and living in a loft in Tribeca until his passing.
