ROBERT MARTIN (1918-1998) Original Oil on Canvas “Construction Vehicles”
Original oil on canvas by Ohio-based artist Robert Martin (1918-1998) depicts workers amongst construction vehicles, a moody sky overhead. An almost surrealist image, Martin has added a red and white striped fabric underneath the vehicles. Birds fly out of an opening in which the workers peer into to create a scene that should be commonplace, yet somehow feels unsettling. A truly modern piece of art, Martin elected not to sign this painting.
About the Artist:
Robert Martin (1918-1998) was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised by his grandmother. His grandmother, having grown up in the Victorian Era, is responsible for the period’s influence on his early works. Martin studied the painting from books of the masters, old and new. He worked from life, enjoying the process and interaction that was created. In the 1980s, he began working from photographs with his series of Victorian Village scenes. An ever-learning student, his work has distinctly different decades reflecting his progress and interests. Persisting was his use of oil on canvas, despite his training in other mediums. His poetic soul was evident in his philosophy as an artist.

Described as creating “refined primitive” oil paintings, she created over 600 works of art. Collections of her work include that of the Ohio State House and the Ohio Governor’s Mansion. Isenhart exhibited her work largely in the Midwest and in New York City. She died at 85 in 2005 at the age of 85 in Newark, Ohio.

Federcio Moja (1802-1885) is known for highly detailed and prized paintings primarily of architectural interiors and scenes of Venice. Many of his works have sold at major auction houses like Christies and Sothebys throughout the world.
