Original lithograph by French painter and printmaker Max Papart (1911-1994) depicts an abstracted image of vibrant colors framed in an isolated, oval form. Created in a Cubist style, Papart’s work captures the joy of life through a sense of movement, cheerful hues, and lighthearted subject matter. Signed and numbered by Papart in the bottom portion of the lithograph, this print has been matted and framed in a standard black frame.
About the Artist:
Max Papart (1911-1994) was born in Marseille, France and learned the techniques of classic engraving in 1936 in Paris. From 1969 to 1973, Paper taught printmaking at the University of Paris VIII – Vincennes in Saint-Denis, France. One of the most intriguing intellectual concepts which Papart achieved in his two-dimensional, semi-cubistic style was a “window” through which the viewer senses another time or place. This development became more and more pronounced in the years following 1981. Papart contended that he never attributed any specific meaning to his work. He felt that each painting had its own meaning and needed no interpretation from him. He died in 1994 at the age of 82 in Paris, France. His works are in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the National Gallery in London, among others.
