Model 414 Sofa by MARIO BELLINI (1935-) for CASSINA

SOLD

This two seater Model 414 sofa designed by Mario Bellini (1935-) for Cassina delivers a delightful vintage aesthetic to the mid-century modern home. Originally designed in the 1970’s, the 414 sofa was the first chair to feature a free-standing leather structure. Upholstered from sixteen pieces of saddle leather zippered over a steel frame, this chair cuts a lithe silhouette and is embossed with the Cassina signature on the bottom of this sofa.

About the Designer:
Mario Bellini was born on February 1, 1935 in Milan, Italy. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic University in 1959 and shortly thereafter, began working as an architect and designer in the early 1960s with his firm Studio Bellini. From the 1980s, Bellini dedicated himself almost entirely to architecture. His architectural feats include the Tokyo Design Center, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, the Deutsche Bank Headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, the Department of Islamic Art at the Louvre in Paris, and the new Milan Convention Center, which is the largest in Europe. As well as being the focus of multiple exhibitions, the number of accolades awarded to Bellini is almost endless. To date, he has received eight Compasso d’Oro awards, the Medaglia d’Oro, which recognizes contribution to design and architecture around the world, the Ambrogino d’Oro for civic merit, and many, many others.
