This original mixed media on canvas by Ohio regionalist artist James Yoko (1916-2004) depicts a scene of a family watching a hot air balloon rise, the background of the image composed of torn, collaged paper to create an active, abstracted landscape. A central figure within the Dayton, Ohio art scene, Yoko was a prolific artist throughout his lifetime and gifted over 700 paintings to the Dayton Art Institute upon his death in 2012, making his paintings now highly prized for their rarity. This painting is presented in a simple wood framing and has been signed and dated to 1992 by the artist on the back of the canvas.
