Vintage REGLOR OF CALIFORNIA Chalkware Green Figural Table Lamp

Dated vintage, this striking table lamp from Reglor of California is crafted from chalkware to depict a sensual male figure posed against sculptural verdure, its compelling green palette throughout adding unique charm and whimsy to the home. This lamp accommodates a single bulb activated via a push switch and includes its original, two tiered, drum style paper lamp shade to provide tempering luminance to the living space.

About the Designer:
Reglor of California was founded in 1947 as a decorative arts company by amateur sculptor Rena Stein and her husband, Bernie, a World War II veteran. Reglor set up shop behind the Stein’s home in Montebello, California and derived its namesake from the first two letters of Rena’s name and the first three letters of Gloria Stein, Rena’s cousin. Beginning with plaster sculptures, the company soon turned towards crafting cast lamps and eventually comprised a catalog of over one hundred designs that were finished in a variety of two tone colors. Reglor lamps were marketed worldwide, appearing primarily for sale in department stores and designer outlets. By the 1960s, Reglor expanded its product line to include centerpieces and wall hangings, with their designs becoming more mainstream. A fire destroyed the Montebello plant in 1975 and the company ceased operations soon after. Frequently duplicated by competitors during their history, Reglor lamps are highly sought after by Modernist collectors, their fun and funky designs and color palettes remaining popular nearly 50 years after the company’s shuttering.
