A signed and numbered #57/650 lithograph from late Pennsylvania painter Vitus J. Kaiser(1929-2020). Titled Victorian, a lithographic print of Kaiser’s well known watercolors that depicted his residence of Erie, Pennsylvania. A great amount of attention can bee seen of the sun breaking through the tress, with detailed shadows running along the siding and reflected in the windows. In addition to the hand signature, this print is plate signed.

ZAO WOU-KI Abstract Etching

By Chinese-French artist  Zao Wou-ki, this etching is abstractly composed with yellow and bits of burgundy decorating black and white. Tonal variation indicates a mastery of the medium. Framed in simple black with a wide white mat. Numbered 72/95, signed in pencil  Zao Wou-ki 068. About the Artist: Taken from attached information label: Zao Wou-ki (1921-2013) was born in Peking, China.  Zao Wou-ki studied for six years at the School of Fine Arts in Hangchow, and later served there as professor of drawing. In 1948 he left China and settled permanently in Paris. The following year he had the first of many one-man exhibitions in Paris.  Zao Wou-ki’s work, stylized at first, is now abstract. In addition to his paintings he has illustrated a number of books including Malroux’s Tenation de l’Occident, St. John Perse’s Poems, and Rimbaud’s Illuminations. His graphics have been widely exhibited, both in France and abroad.  Zao Wou-ki’s first one-man show in New York was presented in 1952. Since 1958 his works have been shown regularly at the Kootz Gallery in New York. He has been represented in many group shows, most recently in an exhibition of French paintings, shown at the Metropolitan Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Museum of Art, Boston. His works are in the collections of important museums and galleries throughout the world, including the Musee de Art Moderne in Paris, the Tate Gallery in London, the Museum Folkwang in Essen, and the museum at Helsinki, Finland.  This print is just one of hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! LYONEL FEININGER “Dorf” Original Woodcut

This original woodcut by German-American artist Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) is titled “Dorf” (translated to “Village”) and was published in Das Kunst blatt in 1919. Feininger was a leading exponent of the German Expressionist movement that overtook the Berlin art scene within the interwar years. This woodcut is brimming with Modernist insight and is a must-have for any serious art enthusiast.

About the Artist: Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) was a German-American painter involved in the Cubist and Expressionist movements of the early 20th century. Born and raised in New York City, Feininger moved to Germany at the age of 16 to study art. He began a career as a caricature artist and cartoonist to much praise. Feininger continues to be a widely studied artist and was subject of a major retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2011.

“Le Jongleur” or “The Juggler” by notable French painter Georges Rouault (1871-1958) is an original lithograph with deep black on off-white paper. A nude man stands with feet apart and arms in the air, gaze upward, focusing on juggling objects that are out of frame. Signed on lithographic stone for a reverse impression.  About the Artist: Georges Rouault (1871-1958) was a French painter and print artist who is associated with Fauvism and Expressionism. He was born in Paris to a poor family who encouraged his artistic inclinations. He began a 5 year glass painting and restoring apprenticeship at 14, informing his style of heavy black contouring akin to that of leaded glass. He studied under Gustave Moreau, who had a strong influence on his style. Friendships with other artists such as Henri Matisse brought him into the Fauvism movement. At the end of his life, he burned 300 of his works in progress, accepting that he would not live long enough to finish them.
