JURIS KAKIS (1938-) “Portrait of a Young Man” Original Acrylic on Canvas
Original acrylic on canvas painting by Latvian-American painter Juris Kakis (1938-) depicts the stylized portrait of a young man in tones of yellow, white, and blue. Kakis uses black lines to create a face, allowing his fascinating technique to create an intriguing study of color and texture throughout the composition. About the Artist:
Juris Kakis is a Lativian-born contemporary artist based in Columbus, Ohio. Born in 1938 in Riga, Latvia, Kakis immigrated to the United States with his painter mother and medical doctor father at the age of 11. A gifted artist from a young age, Kakis received an award for his art within his first year of moving to America, while living in New York City. Kakis attempted to continue the generational legacy of doctors that the men in his family had perpetuated, but ended up pursuing his Masters of Fine Arts instead, going on to teach painting and drawing at Ohio Dominican University for 37 years. Kakis retired as a professor with tenure at Ohio Dominican and was, at the time of his retirement, the Chair of the Department of Art and Curator of the Wehrle Gallery. Exhibiting throughout the United States and Europe, Kakis’ works are included in the permanent collections of the Columbus Museum of Art and the National Museum of Art in Riga, Latvia, as well as numerous corporate and private collections.

Vintage RALPH FANNING (1889-1971) Original Watercolor on Paper
Original watercolor on paper by American artist Ralph Fanning (1889-1971) depicts a charming European bath scene with a heavy focus on the architectural elements that surround the figures. A distinguished art and architecture historian at The Ohio State University, Fanning’s work drew on influences from the Post-Impressionist movement, and particularly on the work of Alice Schille. Framed in antiqued gold, this original watercolor is signed and dated to 1938 by the artist in the lower right corner of the paper.

MIRIAM BARANOV “Belvedere Torso Study” Original Charcoal Drawing
