About the Artist: From his website: “Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael Guinane moved to Columbus in 1996 to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design. He graduated with a BFA majoring in illustration in 2000. Michael continues to live and work in Columbus showing in galleries, public venues and doing privately commissioned works that are shown throughout the country while also teaching courses in painting at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. Large Vintage MARTIN TISCHLER Carved Wood Figure Circa 1970

Large carved figure by German Village artist Martin Tischler circa 1970 is smoothly styled in the form of a woman, draped in cloth with a short, blunt haircut. Tischler was a woodworker based in German Village, Columbus and was the son of Rookwood Pottery artist Vera Tischler. A medium-light finish has a satin gloss, highlighting the wood grain. SID CHAFETZ “Processional” Signed Artist Proof Circa 1959

Artist proof print titled “Processional” by artist Sid Chafetz dated 1959 depicts four collegiates with “medio tutissimus ibis” emblazoned in red on a large flag behind them. Translated, the flag reads, “It’s safest in the middle”. Titled, signed, marked, and dated in pencil along lower mat. Framed in black.  About the Artist: Sid Chafetz (1922-?) was an artist and professor based in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he attended Rhode Island School of Design before being drafted into the US Army in 1942. He returned after his service and graduated in 1947. He continued his education in France at L’Ecole Americaine des Beaux-Arts and the Acadãmie Julian, alongside artists Fernand Lãger and Stanley W. Hayter. Chafetz would then teach at The Ohio State University beginning in 1948, and was an active part of developing the printmaking program within the Department of Art. He retired from teaching in 1982 to focus on his own art. Made by Ohio artist Robert Martin (1918-1998) from rustic barn wood, this primitive cut-out creates a lively jester.  Hand painted details of red, yellow, orange, green, red, blue, and purple decorate the rustic wood while still highlighting the material with artistic tact. His grandmother, having grown up in the Victorian Era, is responsible for the period's influence on his early works. Martin studied the painting from books of the masters, old and new. He worked from life, enjoying the process and interaction that was created. In the 1980s, he began working from photographs with his series of Victorian Village scenes. An ever-learning student, his work has distinctly different decades reflecting his progress and interests. Persisting was his use of oil on canvas, despite his training in other mediums. Babblement is an original watercolor by Columbus, Ohio artist David Schackne. Busy in both color and composition, this landscape features tones of green, blue, red, orange, and yellow with strikes of black throughout. Signed on bottom and titled on reverse.  About the Artist: David Schackne (1923-2004) was an architect who designed many of Columbus's public high schools. As a teenager he studied at Columbus Art School (now CCAD) and would graduate from Ohio State University with a degree in architecture. Original oil on canvas painting by local Columbus, Ohio artist Ron Arps titled “Pleiades” features a nude woman with deep, brooding shadows against a warm yet neutral background. Her curvaceous shape and compelling mystery create a striking portrait. The title “Pleiades” is a Greek mythological reference to the companions of Artemis, who were the seven daughters of Atlas, the titan. Pursued by Orion after their father Atlas began shouldering the heavens, Zeus made the daughters into doves before transforming them into stars to provide comfort to their father. It is said that Orion’s constellation continues to pursue them across the heavenly sky. Signature and maker’s mark found on front and back, titled and dated 2001 on reverse of canvas.
