Known for his sweeping, cinematic landscapes, Fahlcrantz marries realism with a poetic sense of stillness using a masterful study of light. Depicted in this painting, a country side engulfed in an amber dusk with an uncommon approach. Normally left to shape the foreground, Fahlcrantz chooses to set the foreground in near complete darkness, as the light shines upon the fading horizon. With minor highlights of the sunset breaking through the trees, we see the complete picture through the shadow, instead of through the light.
