Antique French Comtoise Clock Circa Mid-Late 1800s
SOLD
Antique French Comtoise clock was made in the mid to late 1800s. Comtoise clocks were produced in a collaborative effort by several small villages in the Jura Mountains, located in the Comte region of France. These craftsmen, typically bearing different occupations in warmer months, would work on various components. These villagers would then come together to gather all of the necessary components to be assembled by the engreneur (gear man) and rhabilleur (motion man). This particular long-case clock has a wooden cabinet with hand carved details. The white face is decorated with black Roman numerals and fancy hands, surrounded by a brass repousse frame with a fruit basket crest.
This clock is amongst hundreds of antiques that are available at our showroom in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.
