GEORGES ROUAULT “Le Jongleur” Original Lithograph with Stone Signature

$2,250.00
“Le Jongleur” or “The Juggler” by notable French painter Georges Rouault (1871-1958) is an original lithograph with deep black on off-white paper. A nude man stands with feet apart and arms in the air, gaze upward, focusing on juggling objects that are out of frame. Signed on lithographic stone for a reverse impression.  About the Artist: Georges Rouault (1871-1958) was a French painter and print artist who is associated with Fauvism and Expressionism. He was born in Paris to a poor family who encouraged his artistic inclinations. He began a 5 year glass painting and restoring apprenticeship at 14, informing his style of heavy black contouring akin to that of leaded glass. He studied under Gustave Moreau, who had a strong influence on his style. Friendships with other artists such as Henri Matisse brought him into the Fauvism movement. SALVADOR DALI “Our Lady of Annunciation” Wood Engraving from The Divine Comedy

$895.00
“Our Lady of Annunciation” is inspired by Purgatory, Canto 10 from Dante’s Divine Comedy. A woman’s melancholy visage is a Surrealist take on portraiture. Mat in white and framed in gold with twist motif. Information on reverse.  This wood engraving print is taken from a collective book of Salvador Dali’s illustrations of Dante’s The Divine Comedy. Dali was commissioned by the Italian government in 1950  to create a complete work of these illustrations to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Dante’s birth. After much dispute amongst the government powers over Dali’s self-admitted questionable morality, the exhibition and commission were cancelled. Dali had already become obsessed with the concept, so he decided to work with French fine art publisher Joseph Forêt instead. In 1959, the limited edition books were published. In May of 1960, and exhibition of 100 original watercolors by Salvador Dali illustrated 12,000 verses from The Divine Comedy. About the Artist: Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was a surrealist painter best known for his melting clocks. Dali was born in Spain to a wealthy family who encouraged him to pursue art. He studied in Madrid and later relocated to France where he met Pablo Picasso. His painting's typically featured dream-like motifs as he believed that dreams and imagination should take precedence over marginal human thought. Salvador Dali is widely regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th-century. This engraving is just one of hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! “Target” by Ernest Trova circa 1975 has Modernist style with four figures on a red colorblock background, with green and blue circles in the geometric composition matching the green and blue borders.
