About the Artist:
Edna Hibel (1917-2014) was a well loved and versatile artist and colorist. Notably, Hibel was commissioned by the Foundation of the US National Archives to commemorate 75 years of women’s right to vote in 1995. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she met her future husband in school, with whom she would be married 72 years. She studied at Boston Museum School of Fine Arts. Deeply proficient and prolific, Hidel painted in oil, watercolor, and worked in stone lithography. Her work with lithographs started in 1966, moving to Zurich to work at a fourth generation printing atelier. She explored the full capabilities of printmaking with up to 32 stones, working with paper, silk, wood veneer, and porcelain. She painted in her studio every day until she was 93 years old.
