NICODEMUS POTTERY Bull Circa 1970
Circa 1970, this bull sculpture by Nicodemus Pottery has a rusty brown glaze with a high gloss finish. The thick bull bears his short horns with head down, with his tail whimsically twisted.
About the Artist:
Chester Nicodemus (1901-1990) was a Columbus, Ohio potter, sculptor, and teacher known for his small clay birds, as well as other wildlife, teapots and pitchers. His pieces are recognizable as being produced with variously colored translucent glazes, which enhanced the redness of the high iron content of Ohio clay to create a russet brown undertone.
Nicodemus earned a degree from Cleveland Art School and then went on to teach at Dayton Art School and Wittenberg college. In 1932, he became dean at the Columbus College of Art and Design and later taught at Ohio State University and served as president of the Columbus Art League. All of Nicodemus' molds and glazes were destroyed upon his death at his request.

SID CHAFETZ “Processional” Signed Artist Proof Circa 1959
Artist proof print titled “Processional” by artist Sid Chafetz dated 1959 depicts four collegiates with “medio tutissimus ibis” emblazoned in red on a large flag behind them. Translated, the flag reads, “It’s safest in the middle”. Titled, signed, marked, and dated in pencil along lower mat. Framed in black.
About the Artist:
Sid Chafetz (1922-?) was an artist and professor based in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he attended Rhode Island School of Design before being drafted into the US Army in 1942. He returned after his service and graduated in 1947. He continued his education in France at L’Ecole Americaine des Beaux-Arts and the Acadãmie Julian, alongside artists Fernand Lãger and Stanley W. Hayter. Chafetz would then teach at The Ohio State University beginning in 1948, and was an active part of developing the printmaking program within the Department of Art. He retired from teaching in 1982 to focus on his own art. Deeply satirical with beliefs, his works bear a haunting style laden with politics, education, and literature.

PASCAL CUCARO(1915–2004) Original Oil on Canvas – Signed
An original oil painting by late Ohio native artist, Pascal Cucaro(1915–2004). Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Cucaro would find influence in his childhood, which would help develop his vision for his landscapes, and subjects of circus scenes, of which he became well known. Touted as an impasto style painter with impressionist influence, Cucaro preferred to be undefined as painting was an evolution. This original oil painting exemplifies Cucaro's evolution, with elements of fauvism, impressionism, and impasto technique. In 1965, Cucaro was awarded a nomination for The Presidential Medal of Freedom. His work continues to inspire in private collections after his death.

Original ZHAOMING WU Touching the Sky
Transcendent original painting by Chinese artist Zhaoming Wu titled “Touching the Sky” depicts a woman wrapped in billowing cloth seated next to a windowsill. Golden light envelops her as it pours in through the window. Gold frame adds to the masterful glow of this piece.
About the Artist:
Zhaoming Wu (1959-) grew up in Guangzhou City during the Chinese Cultural Revolution under Mao Zedong. When he was eight years old, schools closed under the repressive government. Wu filled his days with studying a book of traditional Chinese brush painting and copying comic books. Wu’s mother was a doctor and convinced one of her patients, a professor at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, to begin his formal art training at age twelve. He worked in an advertising agency as a graphic artist until he applied for Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, where he was one of 32 accepted out of over 2,000 applicants. One of 16 students of Western style oil painting, he studied landscapes and small villages. He participated in the National Art Exhibition and made waves when he did not create government propaganda, but rather painted a village wedding illuminated by candlelight. He received much media attention, leading to his art being recognized and shown at an international level. He became a professor at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art, a high honor, where he taught for seven years. He immigrated to the United States once the borders opened up, settling in California with his family and beginning his master's program at the Academy of Art College. He became an instructor of painting there, and continues to teach and work alongside his students at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco.
