This hand painted tray by American folk artist Fronzell Lincoln “Doc” Spellmon (1925-2008) depicts a colorful town scene that features a central figure, the titled “Melon Man”, riding through the composition in a wagon full of ripe fruit. A prolific artist in the San Antonio area, Spellmon painted scenes of life in the South, inspired by his rural upbringing, religious surroundings, and African American Heritage. This rich piece of folk art is wall mountable and has been signed by the artist along the bottom right corner of the tray.
