Original woodblock print by Japanese artist Fumio Fujita (1933-) depicts a line of whitened tree silhouettes against a solemn background of blues. Dated to 1974, Fujita’s work serves as a prime example of sōsaku-hanga or “creative prints”, which stresses the artist as a singular creator motivated by a desire for self-expression; opposed to the traditional ukiyo-e collaborative systems. Framed in a contemporary black with ample matting, this print is signed and numbered 5/200 by the artist at the bottom of the paper.
