Original woodblock print by 20th century Japanese engraver Kaoru Kawana (1916-1964) depicts a traditional, stylized geisha figure in red against a background of charcoal gray. A renowned printmaker with a tragically short career, Kawana chose traditional figures of Japanese culture and married them western, modernist influences. Framed in white and set against a traditional woven mat, this print is stamped with Kawana’s seal in the lower right hand corner of the paper.
