GEORGES ROUAULT “Le Jongleur” Original Lithograph with Stone Signature

$2,250.00
“Le Jongleur” or “The Juggler” by notable French painter Georges Rouault (1871-1958) is an original lithograph with deep black on off-white paper. A nude man stands with feet apart and arms in the air, gaze upward, focusing on juggling objects that are out of frame. Signed on lithographic stone for a reverse impression.  About the Artist: Georges Rouault (1871-1958) was a French painter and print artist who is associated with Fauvism and Expressionism. He was born in Paris to a poor family who encouraged his artistic inclinations. He began a 5 year glass painting and restoring apprenticeship at 14, informing his style of heavy black contouring akin to that of leaded glass. He studied under Gustave Moreau, who had a strong influence on his style. Friendships with other artists such as Henri Matisse brought him into the Fauvism movement. At the end of his life, he burned 300 of his works in progress, accepting that he would not live long enough to finish them. This lithograph is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our showroom in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.

DAVID SCHNEUER “Night” Signed and Numbered Lithograph

$895.00 $447.50
“Night” by Expressionist artist David Schneuer is a signed and numbered lithograph depicting two men in hats, coats, and ties, intrigued by two dark hair women in red dresses. Sly expressions are true to the subtle sensuality of Schneur’s style. Numbered 7/300, signed in corner, well-framed in black and red with a white mat.  About the Artist: David Schneuer (1905-1988) was born in Austro-Hungary, raised mostly by his mother after losing his father in World War I. His family moved to Munich, which led him to go to Prussia to learn some practical skills to become a craftsman. He began sign painting in Berlin for six months before enrolling in the Berufsschule to learn finer aspects of art. A photographer named Tim Gidal whom he met in school convinced Schneur to journey to Paris, where he would stay for a year and a half. Schneuer was the kind of artist to rely on his imagination, gleaning from life and experiential observation. Upon his return to Germany in 1927, he began painting theater posters. His designs were balanced, creating stylized and dynamic figures that blurred the lines between illustration, drawing, and advertising. He found his niche in the new city of Tel Aviv, only 25 years old at the time of his introduction. The eclectic atmosphere allowed his art style to thrive. He settled there in 1933, and developed his Expressionist style until his death in 1988.  This lithograph is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our showroom in Grandview! VICTOR VASARELY(1906-1997) AXO-77 Artist Proof Screen Print – Signed

$4,000.00 $3,200.00
From the renowned "Godfather of Op-Art", an artist proof print from Hungarian born artist Victor Vasarely(1906-1997). Titled AXO-77,  Vasarely changed the idea of kinetic art, confining the medium to a still based form. Using just color and shape, Vasarely controls the perception of depth by using the value of the geometry to trick the viewer's vision. Signed by the artist and housed in a four layer mat, adding to the work's play of depth perception. Signed "EA" for "Epreuve d'Artiste". Vintage ERNEST TROVA(1927-2009) Silkscreen Circa 1975

SOLD
“Target” by Ernest Trova circa 1975 has Modernist style with four figures on a red colorblock background, with green and blue circles in the geometric composition matching the green and blue borders. The figures, developed from Trova’s famed “Falling Man” series, seems to comment on the cyclical process of daily goals and targets in an average life. Original label and artist information on reverse.  About the Artist: Ernest Tino Trova (1927-2009) was a self-trained Surrealist and pop art artist, working in both painting and sculpture. A resident of the St. Louis area his entire life, he started working at a window dresser at Famous Barr department store. At 20 years old, he exhibited his controversial “Roman Boy” painting inspired by Willem de Kooning which landed him an impressive, albeit critical, spot in Life magazine. His series The Falling Man, was a constantly evolving body of work for which he is best known. Starting in 1964, the series acknowledges the imperfections of man and had many iterations through a variety of mediums.
