SOLD

Original oil on canvas by Columbus, Ohio-based artist L.M. Phillips (1900-1991) depicts a front-facing view of an American landmark, The Statue of Liberty in New York City. Rev. Phillips came to Columbus from New York in 1962 to serve as rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Town Street and began to paint at age 59. He self-trained by replicating masterpieces such as Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper and Peter Paul Rubens’ Christ Triumphant Over Death. This painting is the ideal subject for the New York-born Reverend and serves as a unique piece of art from Columbus’ outsider scene. Framed and signed and dated by the Reverend circa 1984.
