Dated vintage, this print from Austrian painter Hans Zatzka (1859-1945) depicts a classic religious subject of the Last Supper, with the Christ figure prominently posed in the center of the composition. Zatzka, a prominent painter of academic and fantasy subjects, crafts an image with an air of foreboding or foreshadowing, and renders his painting with dark, moody tones that are contrasted by a white tablecloth and dramatic renderings of the twelve apostles. Housed in a dated wood frame, this print is signed in plate by the artist in the bottom center of the composition.
