Original oil on canvas by Ohio-born painter William Carl Dalton (1881-1957) depicts a rich, late summer landscape intersected by a small river, full clouds passing overhead. Painted with expert brushstrokes and masterful color theory, this landscape has accrued a soft patina to the surface of the oil paint, adding to its vintage appeal. Housed in a charming gold frame, this painting is signed by Dalton in the lower left hand corner of the canvas.

Unique framed artwork features two paintings back to back in the manner of early 20th century Belarusian painter Chaim Soutine. Soutine’s work and popularity exploded after World War II and was subject to frequent forgeries and copies, this double faced painting being an example as indicated by the misspelled “Souitine” signature. On one side of the framed canvas, this forger has depicted a watchtower utilizing technique reminiscent of Soutine’s lively brushstrokes. The opposite piece on the back depicts a Fauvist landscape of a pathway leading through a clearing of trees. These pieces are reversible and framed in a distressed gold.
