Original acrylic on canvas painting by Latvian-American painter Juris Kakis (1938-) depicts a linework portrait of a horse against a background of undulating, light blue, paint dripped and sprayed onto the canvas to create an atmospheric space of hue and saturation. Commonly depicting portraits of horses, people, and floral still lifes, Kakis’ images remain popular in the Columbus art scene, his images continually renowned for their dynamic, colorful constructions, effortless techniques, and contemporary appeal. This original painting is housed in a contemporary silver frame and is signed and dated to April 11th, 2005 by the artist on the left hand side of the canvas. About the Artist: Juris Kakis is a Lativian-born contemporary artist based in Columbus, Ohio. Born in 1938 in Riga, Latvia, Kakis immigrated to the United States with his painter mother and medical doctor father at the age of 11. A gifted artist from a young age, Kakis received an award for his art within his first year of moving to America, while living in New York City. Kakis attempted to continue the generational legacy of doctors that the men in his family had perpetuated, but ended up pursuing his Masters of Fine Arts instead, going on to teach painting and drawing at Ohio Dominican University for 37 years. Kakis retired as a professor with tenure at Ohio Dominican and was, at the time of his retirement, the Chair of the Department of Art and Curator of the Wehrle Gallery. Exhibiting throughout the United States and Europe, Kakis’ works are included in the permanent collections of the Columbus Museum of Art and the National Museum of Art in Riga, Latvia, as well as numerous corporate and private collections. JEANNE ISENHART(1920-2005) Original Oil on Canvas “Festival of Flowers”

Original oil on canvas painting by renowned Ohio artist Jeanne Isenhart (1920-2005) depicts a scene of a street market in springtime. Unlike many of Isenhart’s pieces, this scene is a closer look at one of the towns she created during her painting career. Perusers stroll about a brick street near the center of town while flower vendors attract customers with their bright stock of florals. Framed in gold and signed by the artist in the lower right corner of the painting. About the Artist: Jeanne Isenhart (1920-2005) was born in Gloversville, New York and studied at the Rhode Island School of Art and Design before serving in the Navy during World War II. Isenhart spent a large portion of her adult career as an interior designer before turning to painting at the age of 60. Described as creating “refined primitive” oil paintings, she created over 600 works of art. Collections of her work include that of the Ohio State House and the Ohio Governor’s Mansion. Isenhart exhibited her work largely in the Midwest and in New York City. She died at 85 in 2005 at the age of 85 in Newark, Ohio.
