Antique JOHN SEMON (1852-1917) Original Oil on Canvas
SOLD
Original oil on canvas painting by American artist John Semon (1852-1917) depicts a stream along a wooded area, two small figures traversing its banks. A painter based in Cleveland, Ohio, Semon’s work is largely associated with the 19th-century “Old Bohemian” movement that was common amongst local artists at the time. Influenced by the French Barbizon School, Semon specialized in atmospheric woodland interiors and later became teacher to a young Marsden Hartley (1877-1943). Framed in ornate gold, this original painting is unsigned by the artist, but denoted as being a work of Semon’s via writing on the reverse side of the canvas.
This painting is amongst hundreds of pieces of art that are available at our location in Grandview! Come in today and see the full collection.
